A bloke who went I went to primary school's dad is my teacher. Anyway, his son is in a band now which have got loads of offers from labels. The teacher was pretty vague. He said all the big ones had offered (and he is not a lying type of person) including a £750 grand deal. I personally can't understand the fuss about them. They also have an offer from Island (who are obviously owned by Universal) which I think is the sons favourite and also Radiohead's manager Bryce Edge has apparently offered a deal where he promotes them.

This is all pretty vague and no really facts in there, but do you still think Foals made the right decision to join a minor record label affiliated with a major one? What do you think the best option when signing a record deal nowadays provided you are wanted?

Just so you don't think I'm joking

it's really hard to believe this £750 grand offer for a new band, especially when last few years record labels keep saying they are loosing money because of the illegal downloading etc.

To answer your question, i would say that when you're signing a deal the most important thing should be to keep rights for your songs so that you have the creative control. and then, beware of giving anybody % of your merchandizing? also, try to force them to sign that they will do a good promotion, not just manufacturing and not selling.

Yeah, I know. bit of an exaggeration I think. If it makes it anymore likely, I think that was not solely for them, that was to pay for getting them up and running as a band.

I also got a question ( first post, though , hello nice and friendly forum, here's the weird german guy  )

What do foals think about other bands or artists covering their songs?
I've heard a lot of crappy 1 on 1 copies on youtube or from local bands, they were actually awful. But there are also some really good covers.

Does it make you proud seeing all the guys playin' your songs or is it annoying?

So this forum is pretty dead.

BUT it's still near the top.
Lucky me.

Any plans for an Eastern US gig? Say, tri-state area?

edwin:
when you, yannis, jack, jimmy and walter first put out antidotes, did you personally (or perhaps as a group) think you'd get to this level - or indeed any sort - of popularity or did you think you'd fail as a band? it'd be quite interesting to hear different responses from you guys!

have you ever played in high wycombe? if you have/haven't, please arrange a gig!

a random question as well; what brand cigarettes do you all smoke?

edit: sorry, when i edited the questions last night i cut out jimmy! sorry!

tron, astronauts n all and big big love have all been played:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUExO1JR5mI [carling academy, brixton] - i reckon it's one of their best performances of tron.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxlCFPGT_Ec [acceleratorfestivalen, stockholm, sweden] - great quality and epic intro fo' sure

okay i couldn't find a link for astronauts n all live, but i'm sure it's been played live a few times before.

edit:

found it in an old thread, as they said, poor poor quality... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1HVvnpy ... re=related

we used to play astronauts and all as an instrumental thing. a long time ago. but then we recorded it and released it now we... er, can't listen to it without being sick in our mouths, let alone play it. dearth is a weird one and i wish we did play it. as for the others, we might play them in the future, i don't think we were ever really happy with how we played them though, and, you know, it's all rather murky water under the bridge.

honestly, i think we have written better new songs than all of those, and so our focus over the next year is going to be on playing them.

for the first six months when i was in the band i was mostly concerned with paying my rent, and after that stopped happening i was mostly concerned with having a pair of shoes that weren't rotting, so... can i say neither of the above? none of us expected to have any sort of pop success, but... i mean, we like ourselves, so we didn't expect to fail, whatever that means. does it mean get dropped? we didn't expect to get dropped. we didn't really expect to get signed. but we would have carried on playing regardless. it wasn't like we had anything else to do.

no. but did you know most of youth movies went to university there? interesting fact of the day.

whatever is cheap in whatever duty free we last went through, i think. lord knows. they all smell the same to me.

kyle, you won't impress a girl with someone else's mona lisa. man up and do it yourself.
someone once composed a piano piece dedicated to me before asking me out. it was amazing, and it made it a little harder to say no.
