I was wondering who recorded the bootleg of the Coventry gig from earlier this year.. it's really quite good quality, and you can hear the instruments/lyrics really quite clearly, without drowning out some of the talking (which, is something I really like to hear in a bootleg...).

So i'm wondering, was it anyone hear from the forum? If it was, or if you've just got some bootlegging tips, can you tell me what stuff you used to record it? Someone I know wants to record all of Bloc Party's Bloctober gigs, so, i'm just wondering what equipment was used.

Thanks.

Can anyone put it up for download. Don't bother if it's too much hassel.

Thanks.

I'm also thinking about bootlegging my friends gig, I reckon if I ask my brother nicely I'll have access to microphones and recording equipment. Just.. does anyone know how to?

I have otherways to do it if anyone doesn't know or cba to type it up...

are you sure that'll be practical at a gig? i think a good hand held recorder will be fine.

nahh, it's their first gig, it's a small venue of around 100. It'll be fine, they won't get broken, and we're guna try and throw it on their myspace, so they want it to be good quality as they don't have any recorded stuido songs yet.

^ I have absolutely no expertise, though one of my old bands gigs was recorded in a similar way once. Basically we miked the drums (use drum mics, otherwise they'll sound awful) and miked the amps, then put those plus the vocals through the mixing desk of the venue. Because nobody really knew what they were doing it didn't come out very well, but that's a basic approach for you to try.

If they're interested in recording their stuff though, and you have access to microphones then you could simply replicate that setup in a non-gig envirnoment. That would enable you to record it much more neatly with repeat takes and without the pressures of playing live that, odds are, will lead to mistakes and stuff, especially if its their first gig.

Some youtube videos have really good audio quality just from a decent enough digital camera. I think you could bootleg a gig alright with one of those.

I'm not guna bootleg it anymore. it's their first gig so they'll most likely fuck up (let's hope not though, eh? ;) ) plus the logic idea i had won't work because we dont have anything to run the drums through to logic :(

guess ill just have to enjoy it whether i like it or not haha
