Official first announcement:

Dizzee Rascal
Karnivool
Peaches
The Temper Trap
Kasabian
Midnight Juggernauts
Rise Against
Magic Dirt

Hmmm. An alright line up so far, though quite similar to '07. Will be waiting for the second announcement to see if I go I think, some individual sideshows would be nice too.
Aussies, what do you reckon?

I'm still hoping the rumours are true and we'll see Foals listed on the second line-up. Edwin, would you like to be extra kind and give us a yay or nay? :P

But I think I'm probably going to go anyway. First line up already looks pretty good (better than previous years! I haven't been since '07 because it was so-so), so I guess it can't get any worse!

^^ I too am secretly (or not so secretly) hoping Foals will make it, but to be honest I'm resigned to the fact that they won't be. As far as I can see, they're currently working on 'Album2' and it probably won't even have been released by the time Big Day Out rolls around, but even if it has, I can't see them running off to AUS/NZ before they've even toured the UK, Europe and even America, seeing as these are undoubtedly bigger markets for them. But hey, we can hope!

I was kinda hoping for Brand New again too, but I think the same idea as above applies to them, as they've only just released their album and so will be busy promoting it with Northern Hemisphere tours.

I will probably end up going though, especially since my parents seem to be moving to Auckland (where the NZ one is) and I'll therefore be there over summer. I think another couple of decent 'big name' bands and some more awesome smaller bands (like The Decemberists) and it'll turn into a no brainer.

If Bowie rumours were true I really think he would have been in the first announcement considering what a big name he is. So, sorry to probably disappoint.

I think you're right DD, re: Foals. But we can hope! Maybe they can't resist the idea of a nice hot January.

Yeah. The Decemberists will be wicked. And I can't wait to see Lisa Mitchell finally. And Tame Impala... again. Haha.

Fang: there are three announcements, but the third one is usually just a bunch of local bands, i.e. the third announcement in NZ usually consists of just the same old kiwi bands year in year out, and some Aussie ones that can be bothered to cross the ditch.
Also, whats with that poster? Is that actually Foals DJs in Aussie?!

Alice: Yeah I'll have to check out Tame Impala, been meaning to since you started reving about them. Also this will finally push me into giing the Horrors a listen, I've heard good things recently.

And generally, I hear there are pretty strong rumours that Florence might be on the second announcement, which would certainly be a nice addition, and would pretty much guarantee my attendence as my brother is kind've in love with her.

to clarify, we're not playing the big day out, but i am coming to australia by myself to play some dj sets. my buddy tim, who i hung out with and djed with a bit when he was in london last year, asked me to play lick it's birthday and i said YES... without really even pausing for breath. so there we are.

sorry again that the band aren't coming out this summer. again, not my decision...

that is, from a management perspective, pretty much it. not so much the bit about markets though. basically our label in australia won't help us pay for a tour (there's no way we'd make money from a tour) until the new record is released.

on the subject of the horrors i heard their new post-album single and it is goooooood. dave ma has done the video and though i haven't seen it i suspect it is also going to be goooooooooooooo.

Thanks Edwin :)

Do you know if your Australian label will include a show or two in New Zealand once the record is released and an Australian tour gets sorted?

Ooh, I will have to check out this video as well as the album then!

Thanks for the info Edwin. It's a shame it's not happening, which I think we (or at least I) kind of knew anyway, but it's always nice to hope.

Lame about the label though. That's the tough part about living here as it's so far away from everything else travel gets expensive :/ Though I'd imagine there is a bigger market out here than they think, thanks to the popularity of Skins.

Too bad you won't be playing in Sydney though, good luck/have fun in Brisbane! It's going to be hot..

Alice (I know it's not your real name, but your real one escapes me..), I always thought you seemed like a real Melbourne-ite, for some reason.

Ah, that sucks bollocks Edwin. Thanks for clarifiying about the BDO though. I was gonna go, but that lineup looks like absolute balls.. so I won't.

I BEG YOU when you come to Australia, that you play Perth. It would make my year. Pa-lease.

Also, your record label here are stinges.

I wish! I really love Melbourne. Might move there once I finish uni (or maybe London...). But nope, I'm a Sydneysider. :)

fang: Who's the second? Haha. I genuinely don't know who the other Sydneysiders are.
